Energy Saving Week

When was the last time you checked your energy bills?

This year, 2020, Energy Saving Week starts on Monday 20th January and finishes on Sunday 26th January.

Energy Saving Week is a yearly national campaign to raise awareness about energy usage in both your home and the working environment. Citizens Advice and the Energy Saving Trust get together to inform consumers of their energy usage and provide help on how to reduce it. Their aim is to lead and guide the UK to its goal of reducing 80% of carbon emissions by 2050! But they can’t achieve this without our help.

How Can I Reduce My Energy Usage at Home?

As the use of energy is constantly changing, it is always good to have a reminder of what small changes you can make in your daily routine to save you money, along with reducing your impact on the environment.

How Much Money Could I Save on my Energy Bills?

According to the Energy Saving Trust, at home, you have the potential to save £75 a year on your bills!

The organisation have identified the issues people within the UK have with energy and costed the savings and divided them into the following categories:

If you want to find out the above in more detail, both Citizens Advice and the Energy Saving Trust has plenty of advice and help to give you.

Through their research, draft proofing has been identified as the most efficient change you can make within your home to reduce your energy bills. This can be anything from ensuring the seals on your windows are tight, insulating your loft and replacing your conservatory roof!

The diagram below shows the amount of money typical UK households have saved by insulating their roof.

How to Save Money and Energy Through Your Conservatory Roof

It is said that ¼ of your heat is lost through your roof! If you’ve got a conservatory, you probably already know this. You are either constantly cold, or you are spending your hard-earned money on heating it.

Here at Greenspace UK, we install 75mm of high-density insulation between our roofing panels to ensure the heat is kept inside during the winter and out during the summer. We used a thermal imaging camera to test our work, you can see the results below.

We have installed hundreds of roofing panels that have helped our customers save money on bills during the winter months, and maintaining the temperature in the summer to make their conservatory usable all year round. But don’t just take our word, look at what our customers say.

Energy Saving Influencers

WWF play a massive part in the contribution to the reduction of energy usage. The current goals the EU pledged to meet back in 2015 aren’t likely to be hit with the current usage of energy we use. Therefore, WWF are doing as much as possible to influence change and promote awareness to everyone.

So much that on the 30th March 2019 (Earth Hour), they stood in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, promoting and encouraging them to turn the lights off. By having such an iconic, lit up building such as the Eiffel Tower turn off their lights, made a massive impact and showed awareness to people across the globe.

How Can I Reduce My Energy Usage at Work?

When reducing the energy usage in our homes, we forget how we can reduce this usage and influence change within the workplace. By doing so you, in turn, decrease the emissions that power plants use to generate energy, helping fight climate change and boosting the economy.

Therefore, saving energy where you go is also very important. Mainly to be warier within the workplace. Gazprom Energy provides a few pointers to those considering energy saving at work, there are:

  1. Appoint a Champion – someone to guide and monitor energy saving at work
  2. Offer incentives for people who join in
  3. Encourage other people to do it “can you turn the light off when you leave please”
  4. Make it into a game and a competitive environment
  5. Publish an official energy-saving policy within the workplace

Then, at the end of the day, you can feel accomplished with doing your bit for the planet.

Here at Greenspace UK, we are big fans of saving energy – offering a product that just that. If you want to find out more, and do your bit, fill out the form below and have a GreenSpace UK conservatory roof installed!
