Does my conservatory need planning permission?

This is probably the most common question that homeowners ask with regards to their conservatory. So when it is being addressed in a national newspaper you know it is a hot topic (especially if your room isn't well ventilated!).

So as a family business that has now helped over 9000 customers get a room that is warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer and quieter in bad weather, we hear it a lot. The good news, as reported in the paper, is that in a nutshell, you don't NECESSARILY need planning permission for a conservatory or extension…BUT…regulation approval will generally be required for any work you do. So it pays to make sure you are ticking the boxes and playing by the rules.

What about replacing my conservatory roof with a solid roof - do I need planning?

In short, the answer Is No.In 2010, the planning regulations changed to allow conservatories to have a solid roof without the need for planning permission. Prior to this, the law stated that to be considered a conservatory, 75% of the roof needed to be translucent in order for the building to be constructed without planning permission. The 2010 planning regulations changed this, prompting a ‘boom’ in solid roofing for conservatories.

Conservatories and energy efficiency - can I save money on my heating bills?

So if you already have a conservatory, can you improve its energy efficiency? Well, this time, the short answer is YES. We specialise in REPLACING conservatory roofs to ensure they are insulated and will help regulate the temperature all year round. Given the current challenges with soaring energy prices, that has to be a good idea right?
