We love spring here at Green Space Uk! The weather is warming up and everything is starting to grow again! And with the longer days, nicer weather (and the knowledge that summer is on its way) many of us start to declutter and ‘Spring Clean’ our homes around this time of year.
But where did it start and why do we still do it now?
There are a few suggested routes to Spring Cleaning, including the Jewish tradition of Passover.
The Torah says that during Passover ‘to remember the liberation of the Israelites, you mustn't have any traces of leaven in the house’. Back in the day, to completely remove any traces of leaven would have required a mass clean of the home and hence, leads to the traditional spring clean we know today!
Another link to spring cleaning is actually from the Iranian Culture who celebrate the Persian New Year (Nowruz) on the first day of spring. In the lead up they participate in the traditional ‘shaking the house’, where the families clean their homes of the old year in preparation for the blessings of the new year.
And finally, according to The Cleaning Authority, in Britain “Spring Cleaning started as a way to clean away Winter’s mess. In those days, homes were heated by fires, and doors were kept shut tight to keep the warm air in. This, of course, led to soot and grime accumulating during the cold months.” So every spring Victorians would clean their home of all the soot and grime, now the better weather meant the fires weren’t needed. And although we no longer use fire to heat our homes, even now with modern heating, many homes can become stuffy through the winter with central heating on and windows shut tight against the cold and rain.
Plus, clutter often builds after the Christmas period as many of us are swept up in the new year chaos, with January and February often flying by in a bit of a blur! So come March/April time when everything seems to slow back down a bit, and the longer days and nicer weather start to set in, many of us begin to feel more positive and are more prepared to tackle the madness and Spring Clean our homes!
There are so many tips online about how to spring clean your home; where to start and what bits commonly get missed!
Here at Green Space Uk we love a good spring clean, but we do worry that often Conservatory roofing can spoil the hard work and effort being put in. Conservatory roofing collects grime and debris over the winter, and are normally covered in leaves, moss and (sometimes) branches! This doesn’t look pretty from the inside and can ruin the whole aesthetic in the room but can be tricky to clean safely. Plus polycarbonate fades and discolours overtime which can also look unsightly (as well as this degrading leading to cracks and damage!)
Our panels are the perfect solution! Not only do they insulate your conservatory and better regulate the internal temperature, they look beautiful and fresh, whilst also being strong and easy to clean! And our Thermotec Panels simply slot into the current framework meaning that they are quick and simple to install with very little disruption to homeowners!
