Unfortunately, a lot of people find their conservatories become cold, damp unusable spaces through the winter, often only being used to store items like white goods or exercise equipment! So, if you’re lucky enough to have a conservatory that is a useable extra room you can really make the most of it by decorating your conservatory for Christmas! Depending on your conservatory’s use, you can create a really cosy, beautiful space, with just a few additions to the room!

Garlands

We’ve written about it before, but there’s no denying it; all kinds of plants and foliage look beautiful in conservatories and help create a cohesive flow from the outside into the home. If you haven’t already got plants in your conservatory, this time of year is the perfect time to do so with Christmas plants such as a Poinsettia or Christmas Garlands.

Garlands are often made from Pine, Cedar, Holly or Fir branches with pine cones, berries, citrus fruits and lights & decorations as accents. You can make them yourself at home (there are loads of lovely tutorials and ideas online, like this one) or you can buy them premade, and websites like this one can help with ideas on how to style them!

If real garlands aren’t suitable, there are a huge selection of faux, tinsel or light garlands or, for an inexpensive option, homemade snowflake paper chains could look really beautiful in your conservatory!

Window Decorations

Window stickers can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, no one wants sticky residue or marks left on their windows. But sellers on Etsy offer some lovely window stickers that are made from static cling vinyl so will stick to the glass without leaving any mess and can be removed, stored and reused year after year!

This could be a lovely little touch to add a Christmassy feel to your conservatory.

Festive Accessories

Probably one of the most prominent ways to make your conservatory feel cosy and Christmassy is to introduce some festive accessories to the room.

There are so many beautiful festive figurines/statue ornaments available that can be placed on windowsills or ledges. Not on the high street has some lovely bits like this light up scene, nativity scenes or different takes on the Christmas village ornaments.

Other options include table settings or centre pieces for conservatories being used as dining rooms. These could even be homemade and help create a focal point for the room (as well as stopping family members from using the dining table as a dumping ground for bits and bobs!)

It’s also common to use the conservatory space as an extra lounge or sitting room, meaning that you can bring soft furnishings like festive pillows, blankets and teddys in to create a cosy Christmassy space. Although this is only advisable if the conservatory is dry and warm so that your accessories don’t get damp. (Our conservatory roof can help to insulate your conservatory so that the warmth stays in and prevents damp/mould build up)

Lighting

There are so many different types of fairy light and string light out there, and so many different ways to place them, that it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming!

Using lights with warm/yellow bulbs can create a warmer, cosier atmosphere. If you are hoping for a cosier feel, less is often more, with fewer lights creating a more warm, snuggly feel to the room.

Alternatively, white bulbs may feel more bright and magical, and when placed across the ceiling can create a real Christmas Grotto vibe. Likewise, multi-coloured lights may help create a magical space.

There are some beautiful chain lights being sold on Etsy that could look lovely in a conservatory (a couple of our personal favourites are this snowflake string curtain or this starburst chain light). Depending on the rooms use, and the atmosphere you want to create, there’s a lovely variety of light options available.

Another decoration to consider are candles, whether real or fake. Lots of stores offer fake candles in all shapes and sizes, from tea lights to pillar candles that ‘flicker’ to create a flame effect and can make the room feel very cosy whilst also being a safer option. Real candles are also a lovely option, with Christmas scents available to really make your conservatory feel extra festive.

These can be used as part of a centre piece on a dining table or dotted around the room on windowsills and ledges.

And of course, your tree!!

Even if it’s not your main tree, having an extra tree can be a lovely way to decorate your conservatory for Christmas.
