We were recently interviewed in the Sunday Times about an emerging trend we have spotted in regards to conservatories. (You can read about that here)

It is all down to the rise in home and hybrid working. We all know that more and more people are being asked to work from home or indeed are electing to out of a desire for a better work/life balance. Now, combine this with a surge in people setting up their own businesses after leaving their career paths during the pandemic and there’s a rising demand for home office space. For some, it is the back bedroom, for others, the kitchen table, maybe even a swish new building in the garden - we’ve seen some STUNNING designs! However, there’s another building that is both in the garden and in the home, the humble conservatory. So, does this mean the best of both worlds?

Well, it can do, if it is properly insulated.

Our technology helps conservatories to be warmer and winter and cooler in the summer months. It creates that ideal balance and when you add in the views of the garden, what might well be the perfect new working environment!  Now, whilst we ARE experts on conservatory insulation, we confess that we know little about the housing market, so we asked a local expert, James Hawkesford, a Chartered Surveyor specialising in the valuation of residential property at Hawkesford Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents in Warwick, Leamington Spa and Southam, just up the road from our new Rugby office in the West Midlands. (You can read more about our new Warwickshire base here.)

Here’s what he had to say;

“This is a really interesting subject because there is no doubt that the rise in home working is impacting on what homeowners and renters are seeking in their next property.

It all comes down to usable space. The more you have, the better. If you were comparing two similar houses of similar value and one had an insulated, usable conservatory that could serve as an office or extra living space all year round, and one had a conservatory that wasn't usable comfortably for those things, the balance will likely tip in favour of the former. Of course, this value would be further strengthened with Building Regs adhered to and signed off. For those looking to add extra usable space to their home, increasing the usability of an existing space is an attractive proposition, and certainly makes it more saleable, especially if you already have the conservatory in situ waiting to be modernised and improved.”
